the scuba zone - Canon R50 & Nauticam NA-R50 Review
Canon R50 & Nauticam NA-R50 Review

In spring 2023 I purchased a new Canon R50 mirrorless camera and a Nauticam NA-R50 underwater housing.

This review exists because I am always considering new equipment and upgrades to my underwater camera system.

Update #1 - The bayonete rings have arrived! June 9, 2023

Today the bayonete rings I ordered arrived. They are 'Nauticam - NA-83214 - Bayonet Mount Adaptor for SMC/CMC Lenses' and once I opened the box, I could see they were well packaged and extremely well made. They are anodized black aluminum and look quite sturdy.

I checked the fit of the my Inon macro lens (Inon UCL-165 M67) and it's perfect. Unfortunately the Kraken 3000 ring light does not fit - the threads on the adapter are recessed too far for the ring light to engage and attach. However some M67 extension rings should fix the problem.

I tested the working and fit of all the components on the housing, and took some macro shots to verify it works as expected. I'm extremely impressed with the bayonet system and with my Inon macro lens with the system.

I found an old Ikelite neoprene lens cover I bought for my Ikelite G16 system, and it fits perfectly on both the bare bayonete mount as well as the mounted macro lens. I like having a lens cover to protect against accidental bumps, especially when scootering.

I am excited to dive the housing plus macro lens this weekend!
